Who never created a lot of expectations, thinking that it was one step closer to its so dreamed job when… found that the job offer was in fact a scam or had nothing to do with the job description? If you want to avoid inconvenience or even dangerous situations, I advise you to read this article all the way to be ready to spot a fake job posting in Italy.
Searching for a job usually causes a certain level of anxiety and often insecurity, along with impatience, makes us more susceptible to scams and fake advertisements. Unfortunately, these situations are frequent and also exist in Italy. Here we will discuss all the features that a fake job posting in Italy has.
The characteristics of a fake job posting in Italy
Take a notebook and write down all the characteristics of a fake job posting in Italy so you can avoid being scammed, wasting time or even taking risks. This is very serious and unfortunately frequent, so I decided to write about the topic to alert you.
1 – When information is missing in the job posting
If you read a job posting and it is not clear what they are asking for or what profile they are looking for, you may be in front of a fake job posting in Italy or maybe you are missing the technical language of your profession… 😉!
Anyway, here’s a list of all the information a job posting should have:
- Company Name: All job postings must have this information, the only exception here in Italy is the case of recruitment agencies which can advertise to other companies. In such a case, you will know the agency that is recruiting candidates.
- The content of the work (what you are going to do): if you cannot understand or if it is unclear exactly what your activities will be, be aware that this is not a good sign.
- A formal e-mail address which bears the company name: if they ask you to write them and they have an e-mail address like this: empresaX@yahoo.com, that is weird. Ideally, the company’s email should have its name in the domain and should be like: hr@compayX.com.
- A registration or an e-mail address for you to apply: if you see a phone number in the job posting and they ask you to call, we can say with every word that this is a #SCAM. This is not the reality of Italian companies. If you get a reply in your e-mail from someone working in the human resources industry, consider yourself really lucky.
Do not forget that a serious company does not want and cannot waste time. This is why they are often very clear and objective at the very beginning, so that they can recruit and interview only those who have a suitable profile.
2 – When they are in a hurry
If you apply for the job today, they’ll call you tomorrow and set up the interview for the next day, open your eyes! Either they are desperate (if they are, it is good to know why) or they are not serious.
Or even worse, if after the interview they say you should attend a training before you even sign the contract and know job details. In this scenario I only have one thing to tell you: RUN as much as you can.
2.1 – When they are in a hurry and treat you like Bill Gates
Are you Bill Gates? If it isn’t the case, then there’s no reason for anyone to treat you like it is. When they gave you too many compliments and for this reason, they are in a hurry to meet you, be suspicious! This is not normal.
If you have not won the Nobel Peace Prize, there is no reason for the company to send a thousand messages and especially calling so frequently. If you find yourself in a situation with these characteristics, you may be facing a fake job posting in Italy.
3 – When it seems like a dream
Do you know when the job posting has these magic words in the company description: “strong”, “challenging work environment with opportunities for growth”, “innovative”, “startup” or “multinational”, but whose name you have never heard of? Besides these words there are many others, but the idea of these job postings is to describe a very attractive and strong company in the market.
It is obviously that all companies want to demonstrate these characteristics, but the problem is when it becomes excessive. Keep your eyes open!
If the job posting you applied for has all these three characteristics, be careful as it is probably not a real job offer.
Bonus: care to be taken and don’t get scammed by a fake job posting in Italy
- Check who is offering the job: identify the company’s name.
- Access the company website to study it in all aspects.
- Read the job posting carefully and check if it is consistent.
- Don’t pay for training before they decide if they will hire you.
- Do not buy products or transfer money to the company that claims to hire you.
- Warning: when they say they will only give you the information about the job personally.
- Compensation is an important argument and you need to have this information before signing the contract. Your compensation cannot be: “a seconda della tua bravura”, “dipende tutto da te”, “i guadagni sono variabili” …
- Read carefully all the contract before signing and ask if you have doubts!
