Looking for work in Italy? Know that you have an important ally 😉. You certainly know it or at least you have heard of it. That’s right, I’m talking about LinkedIn Italy!
Do you use LinkedIn? At least do you have a profile? Do you use it strategically?
We all know that LinkedIn Italy is one of the most important professional social media, but we often have many questions on how to use it effectively.
In this article I will tell you how to use LinkedIn strategically. Shall we go?
• LinkedIn Italia: why use it?
You may ask yourself: why do I have to use LinkedIn Italy? I will be direct and frank! Because it is one of the most used tools by Italian recruiters.
In other words, Italian recruiters use it as a means of recruiting, so you must have a profile and that profile must be attractive!
I always say:
We have to do what works and not what we like!
Simple as that! If LinkedIn is an effective tool, we must use it as part of our action plan to find a job in Italy.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if you like it or not. Not even if you know how to use it or not. If it is an effective tool, we must use it.
In contrast, I remind you that LinkedIn Italy cannot be your only search channel 😉.
There is no good way to get a job in Italy without being strategic! Don’t forget this small but great detail.
LinkedIn: how does it work?

First of all, LinkedIn Italia works as a social network; therefore I can also say that it is very similar to Facebook.
You can interact with other users through:
- messages
- comment or appreciate the posts
- participate in thematic groups.
In addition, you will have a profile page with:
- General information about you (type name and profession).
- A small BIO.
- Information about your professional and study background.
- A list of your skills.

Now let’s go to the practical part of the article, take the pen and write down the suggestions.
How to use LinkedIn Italy in a strategic way?
1. Complete your profile
It seems obvious, but it is not. I’m tired of seeing profiles that lack information or photos.
Think with me, if your profile is the place where you can communicate who you are professionally and what you can do; why not use all available resources?
Also, seeing an incomplete profile doesn’t make a good impression. At best, the recruiter will think that that profile is out of date or that the person is not using it.
To be honest, no one will want to interact with an “abandoned” profile!
So, this is the first thing to do: pay attention to your profile and complete it.
2. Insert your profile photo and cover image

For the reasons I listed above, your profile must be attractive and complete. However, be careful when choosing the photo. Mainly because you intend to apply for a job in Italy and aesthetics are important here.
The profile photo must be selected carefully. Here are the main features it must have:
- Sharp
- Professional
- Cropping the photo at the height of the bust
- Neutral photographic background
- Relaxed facial expression (not too serious, you can smile).
The cover image of your LinkedIn profile must be:
- Related to your work
- The size is 1584 x 396 pixels.
For example, if you work as a teacher, the cover image can be a classroom.
3. Pay attention to “About”
This is one of the first parts of your LinkedIn Italy profile and will probably be the first thing the recruiter will read.
The quality of the “About” section can determine whether the person will continue to read your profile or not.
Please don’t write a “love letter”. Some advices:
- Write a maximum of 5 lines
- Make the text fluid and interesting
- Be clear and objective
- Summarize who you are (your main features and background).
When the text is ready, ask someone you trust to read, make spelling corrections, and communicate the impressions he/she had reading the text.
4. Customize your profile URL

Having a personalized address has many advantages in that, for example, it will make your profile appear on Google first. This will give you greater visibility.
To edit, do this:
- Log in to your profile.
- At the top right you will find “Edit public profile & URL“. Click.
- A page will open. Also, at the top right, you will find “Personalize the URL for your profile“. Click.
- Write your name and surname, then save.
If your first and last name are not available, I recommend adding a word or an acronym. For example, my Linkedin is @marcelaoliveiracareer.
If I had written another name like @careercoach, when the recruiter or a client company searched for my name on Google, it would be more difficult to appear on the first pages.
5. Make good use of keywords
Like everything in the job searching, we cannot do anything in any way and without a strategy. This also applies when we write information on our LinkedIn Italy profile.
We cannot write random words or even describe our experiences with any terminology.
LinkedIn Italia is a social media, managed by algorithmic software, which uses “SEO logic”. The algorithms will organize the search engines, like in Google.
Think with me, a recruiter will use LinkedIn to find candidates. To find these profiles that interest him, he will use a search engine. If the keywords he uses aren’t on your profile, he simply won’t find you.
So, it is very important to use technical and sectorial words.
Prepare a cup of coffee or tea and get to work to make your LinkedIn more effective!
